Cryptic 105

Hello again.
This puzzle's average clue length is 6.4 words. I'm not known for my succinctness, but I have tried.

    I enjoyed doing the puzzle. It's the first one I've done for several years. Just my level. Cryptic crossword solutions never seem to explain how the words are derived from the clues. Is that the case here? It would be nice to know exactly how 24 across unravels.

      Thanks for solving! I'm glad you enjoyed - I don't typically post parses here, though perhaps I should add that for future puzzles; perhaps below the following week's puzzle?

      Assuming you meant 24d - fur is COAT and the "essential" (middle) letter of forbidden is an I, giving a mammal - the COATI!
